Stake Relief Society Service Project

Plan to join your Stake Relief Society sisters at the
Thousand Oaks Stake Relief Society Service Day
“The 500 Dresses”
Tuesday, July 12, 2011
10:00am – 8:00pm
in the cultural hall of the Stake Center

We need cutters, pinners, gatherers, sewers, ironers and chatters to come make simple dresses to send to girls in Africa!

Snacks and child care will be provided throughout the day so that all Thousand Oaks Stake Relief Society members, your friends, neighbors, and Laurels can come together to participate in this incredible opportunity to serve.  Every woman in the Stake is being asked to donate 2 colored (not white), NEW, unwashed T-shirts, sized 2T to Adult Medium for the bodice portion of the dress, and any fabric you might have in your stash that would be appropriate for the skirt portion of the dress. Fabric needs to be a minimum of 1/2 yard long, 44" wide, and longer is better (1-2 yards in length).  (We can get 3-4 skirts made in a 2 yard piece.)  Please use fabric you have in your stash, if available, but purchase new shirts.  You can find reasonably priced T-shirts at Michaels, JoAnn, Target, Walmart, etc., and you can use your coupons to get them 40-50% off those prices.  We will be collecting T-shirts and fabric in boxes located in your ward's Relief Society room the next three Sundays, June 26, July 3 and July 10 so we can match T-shirts with fabric and prep for the project.

We won't be able to complete 500 dresses without help from your friends and neighbors!  What a fun way to spend a day this summer.  Come for as long as you can or for just a short time.  Many hands make light work!  If you sew, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to bring your own machine or serger, but if you do not sew, there is plenty of ironing, pinning, cutting, etc. to keep you busy!
