Housing in the 3rd Ward

There are lots of families moving into our area and they call the Bishop (but get me) for information about the local housing market. We'd love to have every one of them move to the 3rd Ward! I've told them that we would start posting information here about available properties.

So, Sisters, here's your chance to let others know what you love about your neighborhood! If you'd like to have some nice new LDS neighbors, submit info on homes for either sale or rent in your neighborhood to me, and I'll post it here. thanks!! Leslie ( 805 493-0073 OR hackney.leslie@yahoo.com)

Last Sunday, after getting out of church early again, Chelsea and I went for a drive to see what we could find. We started at our house, and found so much that we didn't go past the church. So those of you who live south of the church, east of me, or north of the Cooley's - let me know what's available near you!!
We took a photo of each house, but to save space, I'm not going to post all of those. If you are interested in something, contact me (email above) and I'll email the photo to you.

Hooters in TO?

Here is a note from the Stake RS President to the sisters of our stake:
Follow-Up on Hooter’s Restaurant in City of Thousand Oaks:
After the Acorn’s recent article. I just spoke with John Shepherd, Planning Division Manager for the City of T.O. and he gave me the following information:
Hooter’s Restaurant has requested to lease the property on Moorpark Rd at the Janss Mall that was formerly occupied by Fuddruckers (which we already know). If you are opposed to this restaurant being in Thousand Oaks, there is still time to voice your opposition. They need to receive letters – either via USPS or email – before August 4th. Receiving letters of opposition triggers an Administrative Hearing; and, just for your future information, if an Administrative Hearing decision is appealed the project will be heard before the full Planning Commission which is open to the public.
Right at the moment it is important, if you oppose this project, that letters/emails be sent by Thursday, Aug 4. Whether by mail or email you need to include your full name(s) and address. The address is important because of the proximity in which we live to the location of the proposed restaurant – he said this give us greater opposition rights.
Address of City Hall is: 1200 E Thousand Oaks Blvd., 91362
Email address: jshepherd@toaks.org
Phone: John Shepherd – 805-449-2323 ext 2345

500 Dresses Service Project

Congratulations to all who helped with the Stake RS Service Proect held last week. The participation was excellent and it was so fun to visit with other sisters in the stake. We now have 240 finished dresses with another 175 in the hands of sisters who will complete them. Another thank you to the YW who came so willingly and helped with the children. Some even brought non-member friends! Many sisters said they could not have come without that generous help. Thanks so much for the donations of shirts and cloth and help for such a worthy project. The spirit there was phenomenal.

Stake Relief Society Service Project

Plan to join your Stake Relief Society sisters at the
Thousand Oaks Stake Relief Society Service Day
“The 500 Dresses”
Tuesday, July 12, 2011
10:00am – 8:00pm
in the cultural hall of the Stake Center

We need cutters, pinners, gatherers, sewers, ironers and chatters to come make simple dresses to send to girls in Africa!

Snacks and child care will be provided throughout the day so that all Thousand Oaks Stake Relief Society members, your friends, neighbors, and Laurels can come together to participate in this incredible opportunity to serve.  Every woman in the Stake is being asked to donate 2 colored (not white), NEW, unwashed T-shirts, sized 2T to Adult Medium for the bodice portion of the dress, and any fabric you might have in your stash that would be appropriate for the skirt portion of the dress. Fabric needs to be a minimum of 1/2 yard long, 44" wide, and longer is better (1-2 yards in length).  (We can get 3-4 skirts made in a 2 yard piece.)  Please use fabric you have in your stash, if available, but purchase new shirts.  You can find reasonably priced T-shirts at Michaels, JoAnn, Target, Walmart, etc., and you can use your coupons to get them 40-50% off those prices.  We will be collecting T-shirts and fabric in boxes located in your ward's Relief Society room the next three Sundays, June 26, July 3 and July 10 so we can match T-shirts with fabric and prep for the project.

We won't be able to complete 500 dresses without help from your friends and neighbors!  What a fun way to spend a day this summer.  Come for as long as you can or for just a short time.  Many hands make light work!  If you sew, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to bring your own machine or serger, but if you do not sew, there is plenty of ironing, pinning, cutting, etc. to keep you busy!
